The End Is Coming!

We've been working hard on wrapping up science, our mystery unit, and many other subjects, as we reach the end of the year. Fieldtrips and special events are keeping the class excited. Like our trip to Vancouver! We're going to spend the night at the Aquarium, and then heading off to Science World! And even though we aren't having great weather, we all know summer's coming!

Comoson Colledge

We went to Comoson Colledge on Feb. 29 with Mr. Elm's and Mr. Hopkins' classes. The trip was for our classes to get an idea of the carreers we could follow. We were sent around campus on a scavenger hunt, if we completed it we would win a prize. There were robotic wrestlars, and robotic arms. Wind turbines, spaghetti bridges, and towers were built. Plus, there was carpentry, cooking, and many other contests to watch. We stayed for lunch and left at 12:30.

Junior Acheivment

We participated in a program called Junior Acheivment where we learnt how a buisness works. First we got together in groups and tried creating a buisness of our own. We found that creating a buisness is harder than it seems. Next we learnt how to manufacture items. We had relay races to construct pens, and tried Unit, and Masss production. Lastly, we were shown examples of a good job interview and a bad one.

Ms.Walker

Ms. Walker has been making visits in Decemmber, but only just started teaching us in January. She used to teach us L.A, social studies, C.A.P.P, and would accompany us in gym. Now she's completely taken over for Ms.Gerow! She teaches everything except gym, library, and french. She even goes down to Ms Leopards class to teach them social studies while we're in gym with their teacher! She's a great teacher to learn from!

Wikis

Since January we've been doing reading logs on the wiki. You need to do a reading log three times a week, remember that! Write a summary about what just happened, and what inferences or connections you made. What do you think about the event you read? Do you have any questions? How about predictions? These are the kind of things we want to see in your reading log. If you don't have access to a computer at home, Ms.Gerow has offered that anyone can do their reading log on the computer in the class before school, or during lunch hour. Remember that you can use the discussion to talk to people about books. Only Books! Ms.Gerow will sometimes send you questions, and you need to answer them!

Coming soon on the wikis, look for the page that will be used by the class, for the class, to recomend books to each other!

Our New Blog

Hey parents and students! Now Div.16 has started creating our new Blog Newsletter. We'll be linking it up to Ms. G's website so that it's easy to acess. Now please remember this is only a draft, it will probablly take a few weeks for us to absolutely know what we're doing. After all it's mainly us, Ms. Gerow's students creating the newsletter, and for most of us this is a first time creating a blog. We will have this newsletter updated every two weeks at most, and will keep it going to the end of the school year. Things to expect from this newsletter are Intramural sports updates, special events going on in school and in class, Fundraising programs, and just all around school news! please feel free to make suggestions on things you would like to see appear in our newsletter, or let us know if you have any questions. let us know what you think!
